I believe that every person has the capacity to change and grow. People experience difficulties or traumas that create a sense of "stuckness" or get in the way of them building the lives they want. Relationships can present challenges. Losses can create what can feel like unbearable grief. Life can throw us into sadness and fear and make it difficult to reconnect with joy and happiness. Sometimes we simply lose our way and need help finding our path or forging a new one.Therapy can be a place to spread your wings and free yourself from old burdens and fears. The therapeutic relationship provides a safe space in which you can share and have your story heard; develop awareness and skills needed to recognize unhealthy thoughts and patterns; strengthen your sense of self; and explore and find the things that bring you a sense of passion and joy. Therapy offers the opportunity to “step outside” of the current world you live in and look at it from other perspectives; to uncover or rediscover your strengths and resources; and helps you to develop the skills needed to cope with or overcome those things that are keeping you from living the life that you want. |

Art therapy combines the creative visual art process and psychotherapy, encouraging and providing opportunities for self-exploration, self-expression and understanding. Art therapy offers a means of expressing and sharing thoughts and feelings that would otherwise be difficult to articulate. Traumas and difficult experiences can rob people of their sense of safety, which is often experienced as rigidity in thinking and emotions. Art Therapy can help reconnect people to a more flexible and creative state, allowing for more effective ways to solve problems and engage with life. Expressive Arts therapy is a specialized form of psychotherapy that incorporates creative expression into the therapeutic process. Like more traditional talk therapy, it involves forming a professional relationship with a trained therapist to help you and/or your child with issues that are causing distress or impacting your ability to function at home, work, school or in relationships. Depending on my client’s needs and what they are comfortable with, I may use play, journalling, creative writing, clay, 3-D construction, stories, movies, photography and sand play as part of the therapeutic process.
